D2.3 - Pilot cases operated-validated market conditions

The introduction of the ‘neutral trustee’ as a new player in the supply chain market. Building demand sided horizontal collaboration in a legally compliant way for efficiency and corporate sustainability.

The main objective of the NexTrust FTL pilot cases are to tackle the inefficiency in the planning and execution of freight transport which is caused by a lack of collaboration between the parties. This is in large part due to a lack of visibility to each other’s supply chains and minimal communication among the players involved in the freight transportation.

The focus of the research is to find the appropriate collaboration business model to support scalable horizontal collaboration between shippers.

The FTL demonstrator verifies the high potential for improved efficiencies, for example in form of better asset utilisation and economies of scale, which leads to higher transport capacity utilisation. As a consequence, the reduction of empty mileages or the conversion to intermodal freight services can lead to reduction of GHG emissions.
